Thanks everyone!

Our first meeting will be a write-in at Priscilla’s on April 17 starting at 9am – this is time to just write all morning.  The following two meetings are times when we can start sharing stuff again – April 21 and May 6 at 7:30 at my apartment (email me if you need directions!)

Also, April is Script Frenzy month – this program is from the makers of National Novel Writing Month, only this time it’s for plays, screenplays, graphic novels, TV shows and other scripted material.  The goal is to write 100 pages in 30 days – which is only 3 1/3 pages a day!  Totally doable.

I’m planning on participating – I completed FAILED at National Novel Writing Month, but I feel like I can do this one.  We’ll see.

Come to whatever you can – and remember to try to bring some stuff to share at the Wed & Thurs meeting.  If you have any ideas for the meetings or for projects for the coming year, PLEASE let me know!  I’m sure there are ways to improve things or make things more exciting.  I know we’ve semi-tried a couple times to do an event and it hasn’t worked out – but I’d really really like to actually do one this year.  In fact we do have three original plays by ECT writers coming up in the main season (Turkey Day, Martyrdumb and 99 Impossible Things) that we could use an event to fundraise for – just an idea.  Let’s start brainstorming!

The Attic Theatre’s Annual One-Act Play Festival
Next year will be the 19th year of our event; we are proud of how this tradition has become a mainstay of the Los Angeles theatre scene.

This year, we are pleased to announce that our contest is going green! We are committed to doing our part to cut the amount of waste on our planet, and, at this same time, cut costs for playwrights! We are seeking one-act plays that have not been previously produced. From the pool of entries, we will select a number of finalists whose plays will either receive a full production or a staged reading, based upon the feasibility of staging in the Attic Theatres space. Lastly, all finalists are judged by a panel of established theatre artists in the Los Angeles community (previously, our judges have included Amy Levinson Millan, the Literary Manager/Dramaturg at the Geffen Playhouse; Michael Sablone, Literary Associate at Center Theatre Group; and George Pennacchio, Entertainment Correspondent for ABC7, the local network news affiliate in Los Angeles). The judges select first and second place winners who receive prizes of $300 and $150, respectively. We sincerely hope that you will encourage your members to take advantage of this opportunity.

So here are some writing dates – meaning we just sit and work – come if you can or schedule your own.  I’ll be at Priscilla’s on the following dates – so at least I can put the pressure on you to work

Monday, Dec. 7 at 7pm until 9:30pm
Monday, Dec. 14 at 7pm until 9:30pm

Roger Ebert’s Journal

1. This Saturday (October 10) from 9am – 11am: just like Sept 24, this is a morning to be used for individual work, we’ll call this a “Writer’s Date”, so come whenever you want and stay however long you’d like (especially if you get on a roll!).  You don’t have to talk or share or criticize – just work on your writing!   This is short notice, but I’ll be out of town the next two weekends, so I thought it’d be nice to fit something in on a crisp fall morning.  Location: Priscilla’s Coffee and Tea.

2. Wednesday, October 21, 7:30pm until 10pm (approx): Regular meeting.  I’m planning on having this at my apartment – but be warned: I have moved to an apartment with a bedroom, so my bed no longer functions as a couch, and I have yet to procure more seating as of yet.  So you all can fight over two chairs, and the losers can sit on pillows and blankets on the floor   Bring stuff to read!

3. Saturday, October 24, 9:30-12:30pm: another Writer’s Date!  Location: Priscilla’s…it will probably always be Priscilla’s unless people complain/have better suggestions.

4. Sunday, November 8, 7:30 pm – 10pm (approx): Regular meeting at my apartment!  Bring stuff to read!  That’s right…it’s a Sunday…I’m changin’ it up!
